Following a two-year renovation, the Richmond branch of the San Francisco Public Library reopens today.
The library was built in 1914 with funds from Andrew Carnegie, with a price tag of $48,910. The firm that designed the building, Bliss and Faville, also designed the St. Francis Hotel, the Geary Theater, and the State Building. The 1914 facility was a step up from the library's previous location in the back of Blank's Candy Shop at 254 Fourth Avenue. Although I for one wouldn't mind some licorice with my literature.
